ISC East - Learn about RFID Asset Tracking in New York

Heading to New York in October for the International Security Conference, ISC East? SimplyRFiD will have a booth set up to demonstrate our asset tracking and security system, Nox.

Our Nox system involves using readers, both handheld and stationary, to track people and objects labeled with passive RFID tags. When the readers pick up on the tags performing any action the user wants to record, such as loading it into a vehicle, or being taken from the location, high-definition video cameras record the event. All videos are then stored and referenced in an Excel spreadsheet. With a quick search, users can pull up all videos related to whatever date or location they wish. All of the videos and recordings are done automatically, as well. The system doesn’t require anyone monitoring the RFID readers or video cameras for them to work.

Tickets to get into the event are $50. Visitors must be trade professionals employed in qualifying industries.

This premiere event for all security professionals in the Northeast is a great chance to meet and speak with hundreds of professionals in the security industry. The show dates are October 27 – 29. And stay tuned to this blog for more information as the event draws closer!

What can RFID do for you? Disney edition!

As you'r probably heard by now, SimplyRFiD will be in Anaheim next week for the ASIS International security show, which means we'll be right next door to Disneyland! What could be more exciting than learning all about our innovative NoxVault system? Why, the only thing I can think of is making a side trip to the happiest place on Earth!

So with that in mind, I thought we'd examine some and interesting exhibit at Disneyland that heavily features RFID. 

 

Today's stop is Disneyland's "Dream House." (There's a video that plays automatically, so watch those speakers!) The house follows Disneyland's TomorrowLand tradition of highlighting both existing technologies and ones that might emerge in the not so distant future. The kitchen shows some of the most interesting ideas and inventions. All of the ingredients in the pantries or fridge for the House of the Future are tagged with an RFID chip so they can be identified within the house. When the ingredient runs out and is no longer there, the kitchen-managing software, called Lillian, can automatically make a note of it on the virtual grocery list. 

Does this remind anyone else of a certain asset tracking technology SimplyRFiD can already implement for you? Guess the future's not so far away after all.

Starting your own company - 'a' secret to success

There's a good article on '37 Signals' called "The bar for success in our industry is too low". What is intriguing are the headlines in magazines and newspapers on how to 'make money doing nothing' and the fact that people keep falling for them. I've often said we should sell 'how to get rich, lose weight, or find a date' -- because people always buy those things even in a bad economy. And, instead we keep selling RFID systems.

The article (and 30 minute video) talk about the fallacy of free. You must charge for what you sell and sell for more than it costs to make. They make a point that this system has worked for hundreds of years. And, it's not that a free product can not help you gain market share -- it's that a free product that doesn't generate enough paying customers that you can make more money than you spend is not really a success story.

ASIS tradeshow videos

As you might know, Simply RFiD will be sharing a booth with Brickhouse Security at the ASIS tradeshow on Sept. 21 - 24 in Anaheim, CA. (Yep, right next to Disneyland and California Adventure. Don't you worry, I'll come back to that in another post).
